Teaching Sells: I’ve Signed Up

Teaching SellsSo, I am sure by now everyone has heard of Brian Clark’s new program, Teaching Sells. It is a course that will help people learn to create successful multimedia membership sites. I have a feeling that the majority of those that sign up will not create anything as successful as this training course, but I trust Brian, and wanted to learn more about what all this was about.

After reading the free PDF report he released, I still was concerned that as a professional blogger for the last two years, I wouldn’t be able to learn anything new from Teaching Sells, and even more worrying that I wouldn’t get my $97 worth. Then I read about how the price was going to go up at midnight tonight, and I wanted to be part of it for at least the first three months.

There are already over 500 members active within the service, and if nothing else, I am sure I can learn something from one of the active members, and that alone says something about these private forums. If people are willing to invest nearly $100 into themselves and their businesses online, then they understand the value of information.

If you want to get in before the price increase, that time is now, as there is less than six hours before Brian and team change it from the low price of $97 for three months, to whatever amount they choose.

I will continue to talk about what results Teaching Sells has produced for me, and I look forward with networking with all those that have also joined this training service from Copyblogger.

Commenter Appreciation: October 2007

It is the end of the month and time for me to thank two of the people that helped make eXtra for Every Publisher the great place it is.

If you want to know more about my Commenter Appreciation Project, please check out my previous post explaining the idea.

Last month, I mentioned two great commenters, W. Thomas Leroux of leroux.ca and Mark of 45n5.com and over the course of October they have continued to be a huge driving force in the interactivity of this site, and so I want to thank them again, but I am going to try hard to feature different people every month.

This month, the two commenters I want to focus on are John Leschinski of Leschinski Design, and Ahmed Bilal of Soccerlens. Both of these guys are multi-talented, having blogged on a variety of sites and providing some great advice to me and my readers on a number of posts.

John Leschinski

Leschinski Design

Another Canadian, and one of the few people I have met in real life, John runs his own design company, and I have seen him blogging on Blogging Tips.

He attended one of the local Geek Meetups in London, Ontario when I lived there, and has been popping up more and more in the blogging scene.

Ahmed Bilal

Soccerlens

Where isn’t Ahmed? He runs some amazing sites, and writes on others. He is one of the big names over on Performancing, and has become a good online friend of mine. I highly respect his work, and am overjoyed that he has taken the time to leave a few comments here on my blog.

Soccerlens is an amazing football related website, and by football, I mean soccer. With over 1000 RSS readers currently, it is definitely one of THE best resources for the subject.

Wrap-up

Great blogs, great bloggers, and I appreciate their comments. A big thanks from me, and again, I recommend you all check out every appreciated commenter on this blog, as all the best people comment on eXtra for Every Publisher.

Increase Your Blogging Productivity: Reduce Distractions

Over on Freelance Folder there is an amazing post that talks about improving your productivity, and really it centers around reducing your distractions. Something that can be quite difficult, but also very important.

I find myself struggling with this periodically because my office is at home, and currently so is my wife, but there are some great points in the article.

Here is a sample:

Work in a separate room if possible

Last year I moved to the sitting room to keep an eye on the baby while my wife worked on her computer; this was because the computer could not be moved around and I had a laptop. But soon it became a free for all situation; everybody in the house needed my attention or my counsel for everything.

There were times when I could only achieve three to four hours of professional work during the whole day. And of course the baby always wanted to be on top of my table and bang on my laptop keys. Eventually I had to take a stand and move to a separate — fortunately a spare — room.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like a separate room is enough in our small house, and I might have to look at an office share or something so that I can get the peace and quiet I need to focus on producing a large amount of amazing content for everyone to read.

Definitely a great post over on Freelance Folder, and a great site for bloggers, and really all types of freelancers.

All Tips and Tricks Review

I was recently contacted to look over All Tips and Tricks, and give it a review. After looking at the site, I was quickly able to tell that its content wasn’t what was holding it back.

All Tips and Tricks

Design

There are so many little design mistakes that this site makes, that I could talk about what it needs to do all day. The site has been built in such a way that it doesn’t say “professional” despite the content being very professional in writing style and tone.

An Entirely Different Top 100 Make Money Online List

Over on the 45n5.com Top 100 list, there has been some huge movement thanks to Google updating their PageRank system, and starting today, I will have a very different list with which to create the Xfep Podcast.

I have taken a look at the sites in the list before Mark updated it, and after, and here are the new Top 50 Make Money Online blogs. I suggest checking out the biggest movers and shakers, as they are the ones that were being held back by their lack of a PageRank or due to a low PageRank.

11 Link Usability Tips

Google Blogoscoped has posted about link usability, and some of their eleven tips could mean the difference between someone clicking on your links, or ignoring them completely.

Here is one of the eleven tips in the post:

The first link should be the most important. As a rule of thumb – and there may be exceptions – the first link in a blog post or article will gain the most attention, and the highest click rates. So make sure it’s also the most relevant one for your article. If you are discussing new website XYZ, then make a link to XYZ the first link in your article – not necessarily within the first sentence, but just the first link – and put links to related material over subsequent words. This allows visitors to be guided best.

I have used this tactic many times to get people to click on affiliate links. Just put it before any other links in your post, and even before reading the whole post, people will click on them.

70+ Resources to Make Money Online

Finding sites to make money online can be fairly difficult. It seems most people stick to Google’s Adsense, and a few other select services, but there are so many out there that it deserved a list. Thankfully, I stumbled across one at TechMagazine.

While I don’t recommend some of these services, there are still a large number of great companies on the list, as well as some businesses that might suit your needs, better than they did mine. Either way, it is fairly comprehensive, and very helpful.

Check out TechMagazine’s 70+ Resources to Make Money Online.

TechCanuck Podcast: Episode 12

There is always more of me podcasting, I don’t just do them here, so if you are interested in technology, and what is going on with the web, check out the TechCanuck Podcast, where I am a co-host with James Cogan, owner of Dailypixel, a new media network.

Here is what we talked about in this episode:

a) How do we not talk about Facebook? Microsoft wins the bidding war with Google. How important was this investment for Microsoft? Does this valuation mean Facebook is on a collision course for an IPO? Is Facebook the second coming of Google?

b) Google tweaks their PageRank algorithm and publishers/bloggers everywhere are outraged. What happened here? Does anybody really know? Is Google’s secret sauce too secretive? Do they have too much influence? Was this PageRank correction expected, needed, or totally unfair?

c) Apple is about to release the much anticipated update to OSX – Leopard. Will this live up to the hype? Is Leopard stealing Vista’s thunder?

d) One of Canada’s largest independent digital advertising/creative agencies ‘Blast Radius’ has been bought (offices in Vancouver, Toronto etc.) The same way that mergers and acquisitions are rampant on the web, this is also the case in the advertising world as digital/interactive agencies are being heavily courted by traditional agencies. The CEO of the worldwide company that acquired ‘Blast Radius’ had some interesting/revealing comments on the logic behind the acquisition. Is this more proof that we are ‘not’ in a bubble, but simply experiencing the rise of all things digital and web?

Check it out, and let us know your thoughts.
